There have been a few posts here about us seeing other kids, as kids, have medical procedures that involved baring their bottoms. I had one experience of this kind that will always stay with me, and slightly perplexes me.
I was so young when this happened that I can't, with certainty, say how old I am. It would definitely have been from age 3 to 6 and probably happened when I was 4 or 5. My guestimate is from 4 ot 5 because of things in my life that hadn't happened yet.
The timing, or dating, of this experience would have been sometimes from 1970 to 1972.
There was a neighborhood lady who kept me and a few other kids. I loved this lady and so did everyone else in the neighborhood.
The lady also kept her granddaughter and her granddaughter's first initial was, "S." "S", is 6 years older than I am and so this would mean that "S" was 9 to 11, and probably about 10, when this happened.
Ond day there was a big deal about "S" having to go to the Dr to get a shot. The prospect of anyone getting a shot scared me because I hated shots.
We all got to the Dr's office and the other older kids had to wait in the waiting room. The lady took me into the room with when she and "S" went back so the older kids wouldn't bully me.
The three of us were in this little room and a nurse came in and said hello to the lady. As young as I was, I noticed that the nurse didn't bother speaking to "S" or I.
I remember the nurse saying to the lady, "Go ahead and get her ready. We will be back in a second." Then the nurse left. The neighborhood lady, "S"'s mom told "S" to pull down her pants so they could give her the shot. I remember at first "S" just pulled down her jeans a little and her mom told her she had to pull down her panties too. "S" protested slightly but did as she was told. "S" dropped her panties just below her bottom and her mom told her to lie on the table on her stomach. "S" did as she was told.
It took more than a second for them to come in and it seemed like "S" laid on the table for a while with her bottom exposed. I did see her bottom when her panties first came down but, once she was on the table, I was seeing her hip. "S" asked her mom if she could pull her pants back up until they came in, and her mom said she should keep them down.
They finally came in and told "S" to look at the wall where I was standing. I have never seen a syringe, before or since, like that one. The needle was longer than most but what got me was the size of the barrel! To this day, I don't know what kind of a shot it was or what "S" got, but she got a lot of it!
They put the needle in and the instant reaction by "S" was "awww"! Then they started easing the shot in slowly and "S" went "mama oowwwweee" make it stop. By this time "S" was crying and steadily going "awwww" and "oowwwweeee"! When it was over the initial reaction by "S" was not to get up but to lie on the table and cry. I also remember thinking that the bandage that they put on her was a pretty big bandage.
"S" spent the rest of the day lying in a outdoor recliner and sleeping most of the time. She would cry lightly or whimper when she would wake up.
One of the times she woke up I told her that I was sorry that she had to get a shot, and she actually said thank you.
My older male cousin, who waited in the waiting room, was the same age as "S." He grilled me for what I think must have been months wanting to know what "S"'s butt looked like. I will say - HE WAS A JERK THEN AND STILL IS NOW - just for his outlook on life.
I know a little about syringes but not a lot. I will say that I have never seen a syringe with a barrel like that since, and don't really want to. I feel like they basically hammered the stuff in because they gave it to her so slow.
Does anybody have any idea what kind of shot this would have been?
