 Not really. The only IM shots with a long needle were for penicillin, with tetanus and other vaccinations given in the arm. I remember the sharp pain during the needle insertion, but it went away soon afterwards.

My friends who had polio (I am 78) back then were given gamma globulin, and those were very painful IM shots in the big muscle.

No embarrassment ever. Not from injections in the buttocks, not from rectal thermometers, not from suppositories, not from enemas, not from nose drops laying on my back with my head hanging over the edge of the bed, but I did get a fetish later in life over all of them. All were part of the TLC experience from having a caring mother when we were sick.
