Subject: My Injections

For an entire year after going surgery and chemo for cancer, I was still very tired and my brain was not functioning at it's usual capacity. I begged my Dr to send me to a specialist who gave me some memory tests, a blood test and ordered a head MRI.

The blood test showed extremely low B12 levels and I was proscribed shots immediately and still get them monthly. I had been getting the shots monthly for over 5 years at a clinic within a local drug store.

About a year and 1/2 ago, there was a new nurse and she asked "where I wanted the shot?" I said that I did not know that I had options as they have all been in my arms. She said that I could also get it in the bottom. I was too stunned to do it then and said that it had been many decades since I had a shot there, so I took it in the arm.

When I went home I started thinking about it and did some research, including finding this site. I was determined to try it there the next time.

When I went back the next month, a different nurse was working that day. I still mustered up the courage to ask if I could get the shot in the rear, because they had told me it was an option. She said yes and prepared the syringe and I stood up and asked want to do as I dropped my pants and underpants to my knees. She told me to put my hands over the exam table and asked which cheek. I told her to choose and she said that she would do the right. Then she rubbed a cotton ball with alcohol over the top of my left cheek. I told her that she said she was going to do the right one. She then got another one and did the top of the right cheek. Then she gave the shot and I barely felt a thing. I told her that I barely felt it and asked which shots can be given there? She told me that just about any shot given in the arm could be given there.

I decided that from then on that I would always try to get shots there.

I was planning on an African Safari in 6 months from that time and many shots were recommended. i set an appointment at the clinic for a travel consultation and the original nurse was there. She mapped a plan to spread the shots over the 6 months before the trip and have them coincide with my B12 shots. That day would start with Hep-A and Hep-B shots. I asked if I could get them in the rear and she said yes. She showed ne a trick that I should stand on the leg that is not getting the shot and completely rest the leg that gets the shot. That trick works great! All I feel is a minor pin prick when getting a shot!

We were able to get all the shots in before the trip and the majority were down in the rear. All of the shots are injected near the top of the crack, so I only have to lower my pants and underpants a few inches.

i still get the B12 shots in the rear and never feel anything worse than a minor pinch. The nurse said that it is being injected into one of the largest muscles in the body and should not hurt. On my last blood test, my B12 levels were the highest ever. Not sure if it is because of where it is injected now or the fact that I have not missed a month since I started getting them in the rear. Before, I might miss 2 or 3 shots in a year. I do like the concept of mooning the person giving me a shot.
