What is the thought process of a medical professional when I patient asks for a IM shot which should be given in the arm, but it's requested in bottom? For example, Hep B, Tetanus, and some travel injections? Your response would be welcome. I asked for my last tetanus injection into the backside and they asked why, I said I lifted weights and didn't want my arm to be sore.

I honor their request. If it is a DTAP and they are small build I highly recommend that they get the shot in their bottom as it has more muscle mass, works it into the muscle so they do not get the sore arm.

When bending over awaiting a shot I once asked the nurse if she enjoyed giving injections in the bottom and she replied, "We're not supposed to admit it"!
