I was working in faster care yesterday when this very cute blonde came up to the desk. She was complaining of cough and fever and sore throat. After she was signed in I took into the office and got her vitals. She was running a 103 fever. I listened to her lungs and she was coarse so i sent her over for a chest x-ray. When she came back our doctor saw her, he told her she had an early pneumonia and was going to give her some antibiotics. I came in to her room carrying 2 small tubexs of 1.2 million units of LA bicillin. She watched as I screwed the first one into the metal holder. I told her she needed to lie on the exam table face down. She was wearing a cream colored dress with high heels. She removed her shoes and laid down. I flipped up her dress above her waist. I pulled down her panty hose and her bikini panties. I had her turn her toes inward. She jumped a little as I wiped the cold alcohol across her hip. I placed my hand firmly across her right cheek and jabbed the 18g 1.5 inch needle up to the hub in her hip and started to slowly inject. She started to grab the sides of the table telling me it was hurting. I pulled out the needle and slowly massaged the area a few minutes. I said one more as I uncapped the needle. She tightened up her butt muscle. I gave her a quick smack to her left cheek and when she relaxed placed the needle into her hip and slowly injected. She had tears in her eyes when I was done. I put bandaids on the 2 sites. I then placed and ice pack on each bare cheek and waited 15 minutes before removing them. She told me she was 22 and that was her first penicillin shot. I said they hurt, but you will feel so much better by the morning. I help her pull up her panties and hose and then helped her get off the table. She walked around the room rubbing her butt. She looked over at the two syringes and said those needles are so big. I told her the medication is very thick. She signed her discharge papers and I told her I would be calling her later for a follow up.
