Subject: Suvla Bay Location

Mac, having been to Suvla Bay myself I disagree with your assessment of the location being bleak. I see it more of an opportunity to remember 'OURS' in a an environment that began to shape our Great War consciousness. While your short visit may have left you with that impression of bleakness, my visit left me with another. It is a vibrant area with lots to offer. While the weather can be extreme during certain times of the year the people are not and a monument in Suvla Bay to the Newfoundland soldiers who first saw action there would be poignant. Unlike Anzac Cove, where we have no business being there as we had no involvement in that area whatsoever. The road system in Suvla Bay has undergone much needed upgrades and will continue to do so as we approach the 100 anniversary. Getting a Caribou to Gallipoli is still doable, but I agree the window is closing fast.
