Author: A Parent Who’s Been Paying Attention
Subject: Just wanted to share something that’s been sitting heavy on my mind after the last few competitions.

As a parent watching from the sidelines, I’ve seen the incredible work so many of you do. But I’ve also seen the other side. The cliques. The whispers. The cold shoulders. The elite few who sit in a huddle together side stage.

What’s even harder is seeing it all directed at the teacher who chooses not to get involved. The one who stays focused on their kids, keeps their head down, and just does their thing with kindness and professionalism. And yet somehow, they still get excluded and talked about.

Let me just say this – we notice.

The parents in the room see what’s going on. We’re not blind to the way certain groups behave or how the mood shifts when a particular teacher walks by. We notice the glances, the whispered remarks, the calculated exclusion. And honestly, it’s hard to watch.

It’s not harmless. It’s not just “how it is.” It’s damaging.

That teacher is a person – one who is trying their best, one who shouldn’t have to endure that kind of behaviour in a space that should be fun. It chips away at confidence. It isolates. It hurts.

To those caught up in the drama – please take a step back. This isn’t high school. It’s not a competition between teachers. It’s a community – or at least, it should be.

Let’s all do better.. Our children are watching.
