Missed a field goal to make it 31-7 and fumbled when we should have been putting the game away. Those are physical mistakes I can't put on the coaches... either one goes the other way & the game is a blowout. However, every other decision the coaches made was defensive, made not to lose. Can't have that going forward.

It's a win! Move on...2-3, 6 games to go; Princeton up next -- Raider Archivist, 10/ 2/15 11:36:40pm Fri
Flush it out!...Move on !
Take it one game at a time and hope that gate can keep improving.
Gate improved in the penalty area, mixed in a solid passing game and found another 100 yard rusher.
Princeton will be a challenge.
Princeton will be seeking revenge for the game they blew at Kerr last year.
A win there can build the confidence.

Two in a row is a winning streak -- The Future, 10/ 3/15 9:04:30am Sat
Cornell came into the game with the philosophy that they were going to stop Colgate’s tailback no matter what the cost.
Melville absolutely torched them with his arm and his legs—had what was probably his best game as a Raider.
Interesting listening to Hunt's interview after the game that it's the QB's read whether to hand off or audible and throw the ball--even in the 4th. Hope Jake keeps calling his own number--especially when the D is playing man or keying on the TB. Make them pay for it. To be fair, it might have been different if not for the fumble, but Colgate really fueled momentum by taking its foot off the gas on O. Hoping down the road that Melville keeps it on 3rd and short, or does play action. The O looked so good for the first three quarters taking what the defense was giving. Hope they learn from it, keep attacking, and start burying teams--they can certainly do it.
Cornell's O line did a very good job in the 4th. Colgate's D line was very good for much of the game and then just got shut down--felt like the end of the Yale game. Don't know why. Put a lot of pressure on the D backs who chose a good time to make their best plays of the game.
Not sure why Cornell doesn’t get the ball to Hagy a lot more often. Guy is so quick. 121 yards rushing but he only had 11 carries. Dumb.
Not sure why the announcer had such a hard time saying, “Castillo.” By the third time he said his name he gave up and just called him, "Dan."
Colgate has won 17 of the last 19 against Cornell. Imagine how they feel losing this game. Colgate now trails in the series 48-46-3. Not too long ago it was 46-29-3. Nice job of reeling in Cornell and Holy Cross the past 15 years.
Good teams win these games and learn from them. Keep it going 'gate!

Re: Odd arrangements for fans at Cornell -- The Future, 10/ 3/15 9:12:20am Sat
I think there were 9,000. The stadium holds a little over 300,000 so it's deceptive.

Re: Odd arrangements for fans at Cornell -- Steve, 10/ 3/15 10:02:11am Sat
I think you will find that there is no college stadium which holds 300,000.
Yeah, 8000 last night might be right, though.
I enjoyed the game even with its nailbiter of a last quarter. And if I were to moan, I would make 2 of them:
1- it must be very embarrassing for Cornell to allow their stadium to fall into disrepair- or whatever it was- so that the visitor stands were off limits. You might think closing them might give an advantage with broadcasts in that the home side would look more filled, And the thought did cross my mind.
2- I was disappointed that the Colgate athletic department did not send its cheerleading team for a drive that took 1.5 hours from Hamilton via a clever google routing that was new to me. It calls itself a team, has a coach, and this is our closest away game with no overnight or other expenses on a dry but cool evening. It's just not right and it conflicts with my memories of my past roadtrips as a student and alumnus.
Anyway, we have another win capped by that fight song with the stanza about drinking all the beer. Very satisfying for the 90 minute drive back last night.
Go 'gate!

Re: Odd arrangements for fans at Cornell -- Gate Raider, 10/ 3/15 11:03:25am Sat
I was told by a Cornell guy that the visitor side was condemned but, I have sat there many times and those stands don't look that old and seemed in pretty good shape to me. Steve, might be right about wanting to make the other side look more full. Frankly, the home side stands, excluding the new aluminum bench seats, are really showing their age.

For many, many years what you call the "visitors side" was actually the Cornell student section. The visitors' bench was on the crescent side of the field. Did Colgate have a block of seats reserved?

Any poster thoughts re:
PASS DEFENSE- coverage/ pass rush. What should be done?
HOLLAND -should be the main RB? injured?
QUAZZA - pro prospect and at 6'6" should be getting
many more throws. Hard to cover and
would spread dbs thin.
FROSH ON O - Any other than Martinsen showing anything?
NATHAN OBINWA No.97 - any info?
THIRD DOWNS - Princeton planning to stop Wilkins on
third down. Shut down Eachus a few years
ago as I recall. PL teams to follow suit.
Quazza perfect for third and short.
COMPLETE GAME- Better start playing them soon.Any
comments/ explanations?

Holland was hurt, should be back. Obinwa is back on campus but not eligible to play until next year. The more speculative questions I dunno. Hope we continue to improve!

Re: Terrible by 4 -- Gate Raider, 10/ 3/15 7:54:34pm Sat
As this game showed in the fourth quarter, 'gate's pass defense has its difficult periods. Agree that Quazza should see more action. Don't think Princeton will be that successful stopping Wilkens on short yardage.
From the Cornell highlights tape, available on their site,
it looked like DB #1 had two bad plays that resulted in Cornell's first two TD's. First, was the 79 yard TD run and it looked like 1 just made a poor attempt at the tackle. Looks like he could have pushed the runner out of bounds or wrapped his arms around the runner to tackle him. Second, he just got badly faked out and the receiver ran past him to catch the pass in the end zone. Best game yet for 'gate but, there are still some weaknesses that need to be addressed - as there always is.

Looking at the highlight take again, #1 also got mouthy in the end zone when Cornell scored their third TD and one of the refs stepped in to stop it. Wish Colgate had more height in their DBs.

More height? I agree, but you can only wish. That said, I'm still searching to find the best defense in the last 20 years. Where is it?

Fordham 35, Lafayette 0. This is what we're facing down the road. A lot needs to be improved on both sides of the ball before we can add another PL title to our resume.

Opponents -- The Future, 10/ 4/15 1:11:53pm Sun
Navy beat Air Force 33-11.
(Why does Air Force play these games!!! It's embarrassing!!!)
Holy Cross beat a not-horrible Albany 37-0.
I watched the Yale-Lehigh game. Yale made a lot of mistakes and dominated. Really tried to give the game away.
Fordham beat Lafayette 35-7. Lafayette had a FG blocked that would have put them up 10-0 that was returned to their own ten. Had a second FG blocked. Edwards has such a good second gear--maybe not the fastest top end speed but he really moves away from guys when he gets 10 yards past the line of scrimmage.
UNH (with their backup QB playing) went up 34-0 against Elon in the 2nd quarter and won 37-14.
Princeton has beaten Lafayette by 33 and Lehigh by 26 and snuck by Columbia 10-5.
