I acknowledge and respect the other points-of-view expressed. However, in my mind, the issue and priority here was not supply-and-demand and whether the game can likely sell out anyway at $25 per pop. The individuals ALREADY interested in women's b-ball in genral and those that are familiar with U CONN being a dominant prennial power will likely not be deterred from attending due to the price-tag. And certainly all of BS friends and supporters will be attending anyway. These people are still going to come. i get that. And I also comprehend that VC is looking for revenue dollars wherever and whenever she can find them. Still........I differ. I think VC got this wrong! I see the U CONN game as a potential opportunity to have attracted area individuals who may NOT have been to a women's basketball game before; certainly, not a Colgate game. A hefty $25 price-tag is likely, in my view, to discourage any of thse new potential individuals from coming.

UCONN aint coming back again - and I dont belive U Tenn; Notre Dame; Duke; Stanford women's b-ball teams are coming to Hamilton anytime soon. So - from standpoint of using the UCONN game as a potential building block for new fans/new attendees, i belive opportunity is being squandered. This is an obvious marquee match-up - and by going with the $25 admission, we are choosing not to use it to maximize it as new fan-building/pgrm-building opportunity. Instead, we are chossing to maximize possible dollars.

If the incremental benefit here were in 6 figures, I would feel differently. however, the "premium" being charged here - is not a 6 figure difference-maker.

We do have a great AD and her team is top-notch. But, I call em as I see em - and I can't support the decision that was made here. turns my stomach.

PS: I enjoyed watching our mens lax team on TV past few years, but have not attended a home game. Can someone enlighten me? Did we charge any "premium" for the home games against 'Cuse or against Maryland? realize Andy Kerr wasn't selling out in those situations, but imagine those "marquee match-ups" could have commanded slightly higher admission, if it is all about the moneyfor gate.

^^^^ THIS.

Madison county (and surrounding areas) have a LOT of families that simply cannot afford to pay $100 for a family of four to attend an event.

Some of those children will never get to see a team like UConn live, and they are often the only ones at games in January. Price gouging the locals is not the way to ensure they come back to see Colgate vs. Holy Cross, and is not consistent with the Colgate I know and love.

This is not about Hamilton and locals. The price is geared to those coming from Syracuse to see Brianna play. My guess is that Geno and the Uconn athletics folks pegged this price to get some return on their investment of traveling all the way to upstate NY, and to line their coffers. Locals be dammed, we!re going to get as much per fanny as we can. It's a very unfortunate situation and no way to build a fan base for bb at home.

Geno and UConn had nothing to do with setting the ticket price. They have played hundreds of away games - including several at Holy Cross - and never had anything to do with the price of tickets.

If it is that big of a deal, contact the Board of Trustee's, they run the place.

I am reading from our bison contributor that UCONN and Gino had no role in setting our "premium" price and that UCONN in fact, is NOT getting a huge guarantee for coming to Hamilton. As many have stated, the UCONN motivation is playing a game nearby her home for their senior superstar BS. While I belive that Bison is correct, I am going to check on this. And I will absolutely voice my specific complaints to Mike H - who has done a great job chairing Athletics on the BOT, as well as to AMG and VC.

In bigger scheme of things, I have contributed to Triple-Double in hopes of building/up-lifting the womens basketball pgrm. Bigger Picture oriented towards creating/building something for the future. That is an on-going process. Premium for UCONN does not help that building process. We are missing real opportunity with locals to try and gain a few more followers/potential fans. And if anyone has been to Colgate women's basketball home games, everyone would grasp that gaining even an additional 10-20 consistent, loyal home fans per game would move the needle. Building home attendence has to start somewhere - and this is a missed opportunity.
I am someone who can afford the $25 - but I absolutely understand that that admission ticket is expensive in the Hamilton NY area for some "locals." And as previously stated, the "premium" likely will discourage some potentially "curious" locals from attending.

Bad Job Colgate!!!

(From an existing w-basketball contributor and supporter).

I have come around to the point where I am not disturbed by the $25 price. This is a game UConn wanted to play in the local area for BS. They aren't playing the game to benefit Colgate. Syracuse would not accommodate UConn. It is being played more for Syracuse folks than local Hamilton/Colgate fans. I can't see being totally beat by UConn as a boost for 'gate WBB. I don't think that local Hamilton fans care at all about UConn and they are not stupid. I suspect they realize that it is money maker for Colgate with the money coming from Syracuse.

>I don't think that local Hamilton fans care at all about UConn and they are not stupid.

I live just outside of Hamilton.

You may be underestimating the opportunity this is for locals. Many of us cannot afford taking the family to a game at the Dome (nevermind seeing the Giants, Bills, Mets, Yankees, etc.). Our chance to see national-class athletics is on the Colgate campus. We go to football games even during bad weather and difficult seasons (which appears not to be true of the many Colgate students). When no one else is in town for the basketball, hockey, softball, lacrosse, etc., you'll see us there.

You could argue, of course, that Colgate owes us nothing (debatable, given the "non-profit" status of a $800M enterprise that has property off the property tax and school tax rolls in a county that is economically challenged). Yet if you treat us as if we do not have value, you will see even emptier stands in December and January (nevermind the fact that often there are more of in the stands for a football game than there are students!).

All decisions have costs and benefits. I hope Director Chun and her staff have thought hard about the statement this is making to locals who have supported Colgate athletics at times when faculty, staff and administrators have been less enthusiastic.

>I think this is expressed accurately and very-well.

For perhaps 20-30 grand as the up-side, the strong negative PR statement makes the "premium" a short-sighted, narrow decision.

And by the way, Bison and others are correct. the motivation/decision for the 'premium" was on the Colgate side. Can't blame Gino or UCONN.

............just something to remember when there are less then 100 bodies in the gym for a women's game come January, and something I will remember when I am again asked to contribute to Triple /Double "to help build thewomen's b-ball pgrm."

Again, at risk of being redundant, a bad job by Colgate here.

I feel for the ticket person, imagine they are taking all the bullets on this one, which doesn't surprise me.
