I guess the layers of fibreglass on the fixings in the hull that locate the wing pins resulted in the grip length of the pins being marginally too short. To overcome this problem he bonded some U brackets in the hull to retain the pins (see link below to picture in Picasa Album. The pins are a pretty tight fit in the wooden wingspars so he also made a rack arrangement (see picture) so the pins can be gently eased in and out with a custom tool.
