I also have a 582 TD Pulsar. For some reason I haven't worried about the fuselage tank! I do an ethanol test when I buy fuel, but I'll look into the refining question and may follow your practice.

The XP I'm building has blue foam ribs, all of which I've painted with epoxy slurry so they should have some protection from fumes.

I wonder if the fuselage tanks, being inherently rigid, are"safer"than wing tanks. I'm thinking that the wings must flex under "G" loads and that might promote cracking.

If most of the fleet has survived for some years, maybe I should not worry until the problem rears its head.
