I broke my main gear (foam core) whilst learning to land my Pulsar 582 taildragger.
None of my landings were especially heavy so I think the U/C may have already been weakened by the previous owner ground looping it.

My undercarriage is the "light" version. I thought these were for the Lighter Rotax 582 aircraft.

My undercarriage is at Grove's "standard" height so this makes the nose even higher on the deck and when taxiing. I'd assumed (always dangerous) that Grove increased the ground clearance because their undercarriage flexes more.

The only downsides I can see to the Grove undercarriage are:
1) cost (add import duty and VAT to Grove prices,
2)the Grove is really springy with zero damping so a heavy landing can relaunch you. and
3) if retrofitted the pain of having to chop (and then make good) a full width slit across the underbelly of the fuselage.

I got Grove to run a semicircular groove down the rear edge of the legs to accept the brake cable (no extra charge). They also offered a service (again free) of rifle drilling the legs so the bore could be used as an integral hydraulic brake tube.

If I were building a Pulsar now, had the money and had the choice of a foam or Grove undercarriage I'd go for the Grove.

Cheers

Bob
