Hi Phil,

The E36 M3 swap has been done lots of times and there is minimal fabrication that has to be done too. I believe it only requires some small work to make the exhaust clear the chassis but everything else is basically plug and play. You will probably need all the stuff that goes with the M3 engine like the radiator, hoses, etc. You will want to save hassles also by taking the E36 tranny and matching it up to an appropriate drive shaft.

A chip will typically give you from no improvement to perhaps 8hp extra. Don't believe any of the marketing hype you read; there are always caveats that are unmentioned or in fine print.
The best ones are from the designers, Dinan, Jim Conforti, etc. You take your chances on eBay so be cautious there.

Can't help you with the suspension but it sounds like you have some major issues that should be fixed ASAP :(
