Lisa, how old were you then?

That was a very common way moms gave enemas. On the table. Laying on back ,on a towel. Legs held up some. When getting the enema told to take breaths in and out of open mouth. Remember it very well!

Most homes in the 50 and 60s had an enema bulb syringe , the enema bag or both

Growing up in the late 50s I remember my mom, aunt, neighbor mom giving an enema on the table.

Nothing wrong. The child was given an enema if constipated, even to help hasten recovery from cold and flu.
If the child was irritable, fussy, fighting with the other kids, sluggish, moody and such, he was given an enema.

It was nothing to ashamed of or shy of. Talked about amongst mom—the enema!

I remember one time going over to my girlfriend’s house. In those days the door was unlocked. We would just walk in.

Her mom was giving her little brother an enema on the table. She was filling the red rubber enema bulb syringe, had back nozzle, in a pan of warm soapy water. We were about 5 years older than him.
Knew he was going to get an enema!

She told me “you girls play nice and don’t make a ruckus…I’m busy giving him an enema.”

No big deal.

We went through the kitchen a few times. Just to be nosy. She didn’t say anything to us. She squeezed the bulb… told him to “relax.” “You need a good enema…you will feel better.”

After a few bulb full given to him she took him to go.
Then filled the pan up with plain warm water. In the sink.

Back on the table….

She gave him another enema.

Later he joined us playing. No big deal … was no mention of him getting enemas.

She cleaned the bulb in a sink full of soapy water. Then rinsed with plain water.

Later I went into the bathroom and the enema bulb she was using was airing out.

The neighbor mom came over. She told her “gave him an enema.”
She asked if he fought getting it… cause her two always fight getting enemas.
