It seemed to me, that in my family where I was the only male in most cases, that my sisters and mom more frequently were utilizing the enema bag and bulb. It was always hanging to dry or sitting on the vanity. Only when dad was home for short periods, did he seem to be on the receiving end.

The difference that was noticeable to me, was that when I got an enema, it seemed far more punitive and off putting to mom or grandma. When my sisters got an enema, it seemed to be a positive and nurturing event. They were praised for being "good girls for their enema" and often rewarded with a treat.

They got their enemas on the bed after they were older. The enemas on the table, when they were young toddlers, ended as they got older. I got my in the cold tub. If I complained or resisted, a spanking was more common.

As we became adults, my older sister reminded me of some of those enema events. We laughed about them in hindsight. She didn't mind those enemas when young and seldom used them later in life, even though she was a nurse. I, on the other hand, found them to be a rather simple procedure and pleasure.
