While my mom or grandma frequently talked about enemas that included my aunt or even neighbors, we kids didn't get much information or knowledge until we were a bit older. We had eavesdropped on discussions and even studied the medical and nursing books laying around. By then, both of us had experimented & self administered based on our explorations.

I witnessed a few treatments (enemas, suppos, and RT's) given to my younger sisters, but was shut out of the room when my older sister was treated. She did witness mine at times. I suppose that lessened my fears and disdain as I matured and realized some positive effects and sensations.

I did get educated on fluid dynamics by my grandpa who had fish aquariums. I assisted in cleaning those tanks at a fairly young age. My uncle inquired one day about how we transferred the water in order to scrape algae off glass.

Grandpa was using red tubing and a small white Davol bulb syringe to start a siphon. My uncle asked where to find that equipment. My sister overheard this and piped up saying the tubing was from the worn out enema bag and the syringe had been used to give our little sister's enemas. Obviously, the enema equipment had been replaced with newer items.

The upside was that I learned that the enema bag had to be raised to increase the flow rate and too much force on the bulb syringes was potentially dangerous. Lowering the enema bag below the point of infusion resulted in a siphoning event or backflow (Harris Flush?). TMI for youngsters?
