Carol A, your post conjured up some memories of "that look" that mom's gave when preparing to give an enema. From a kid's perspective, my sister and I saw that look on mom's, grandma's, and our neighbor's faces that telegraphed the impending enema that one, or all of us, was about to receive.

If we were called to come home from our friend's house, our friend's mom had "that look" that gave away what mom and grandma were about to do. On the other hand, our friend's mom gave our mom "that look" when our friend was summoned. Mom made sure that we left quickly and gave grandma a nod as we returned. We could overhear that our friend was going to get an enema as we got within earshot at home.
