Kalya paused, a little horrified by her wild sprint, but it seemed that no-one had seen her. Since both she and Channa were waiting for Wessae, Kalya took some time to think about the responsibility of being a queenrider.

The choices. Of course, if she did Impress the queen, she'd have to make choices, and she had had to make many tough choices in her life. If the queen was her lifemate, she'd get a chance to make choices that might help someone on Pern, maybe help a frightened child somewhere achieve their dream, and that was her dream.

The flights. Kalya wasn't nervous about the flights, if she Impressed at all, it wouldn't matter what color, for eventually she probably would end up in a flight, if only because her dragon would wish it. If she did Impress the queen, though, she would be essentially a half-mother to 25-35 little dragons, and she might even get the chance to be the mother she'd never had to some creatures.

Maybe even Weyr leadership. Kalya shrugged. It would only give her more choices, but with all the queens, she doubted if she Impressed the queen that there would be a Weyr for her for a while. Besides, she hadn't even Impressed yet. She didn't know if she would Impress at all.

Sighing, Kalya returned to her real life, and turned to Channa. "So, what's it like having a queenrider for a sister?"
