Subject: I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date!

“What am I doing here?”

That was the first thing out of the 15-turn-old’s mouth as the boy walked slowly onto the sands. Late, as usual. Griffin’s auburn eyes looked unsure through the glasses his sister had made, and which he was thankful for.

Grif normally couldn’t even focus on his hand in front of his face, much less an entire field of sands. The glasses had been a project his sister, Lamia, had worked on. She’d loved to mess with things, see how they worked, and had even studied as the glassmith’s apprentice... back when she’d been apprentice of just about everything she could. She’d toyed with some flight goggles, and figured that if the refraction of light could be used to one’s will, they could have the glasses that one of the rider’s had told her Aivas had spoken of. Thankfully, she was right, though he probably looked weird to those around.

Grif walked cautiously onto the sands, noting that everyone was standing at least half a dragon’s length away. He sighed; he was late! At least half the clutch must’ve hatched while Lamia and he had bustled around, looking for his missing candidate robes. At last, his had been found... though Mia’s wasn't.

Of course, Uncle S'non was watching baby Phoenix right now. As he looked up, Grif could see them in the sands. Phoe was watching eagerly in S'non's lap, and he knew she was watching the already hatching dragons. Who out here wasn't?

Grif sighed, and took a few shaking steps. He was close to the front now, though he was deathly afraid that he'd be trampled by a dragonling. Griffin was a short lad, and probably looked too small for Impression, even if it was his fiftenth birthday today. Griffin was short, skinny, and all around weak, so if a dragon happened to come his way to look for someone behind him...

Grif shook his head, dismissing the painfully vivid images running through his mind. Dragon hatchlings had never killed a candidate... right? He really didn't have much to worry about...

However, as he watched the eggs spin faster and faster, he started to have a few, er, second thoughts...

((Hey there! Any color for him! Green, blue, brown, bronze... Grif would love 'um!))
