Author: Lukas, Ranee, and Emilla
Subject: Anticipation

(sorry, schoolwork and a flitt Hatching at my other Weyr have been occupying me of late, but now I'm back)
There seemed to be a lull in the Hatching right now. Eggs were still rocking a bit, but none showed any signs of their occupants breaking out soon. Lukas continued to people-watch. A boy had just walked in wearing some kind of modified riding goggles over his eyes? Were those the glasses he'd heard about? He'd have to ask his fellow Candidate. Those would probably be helpfull to him. He walked over to the two girls he'd noticed earlier. "Um, hi." he said to them, extending his hand. "I'm Lukas. Nice to meet you." One of the girls, the taller one, shook his hand warmly. The other, the tiny one, nodded at him shyly. "I'm Ranee." the tall girl told him. "And she's Emilla." Lukas looked at Emilla, going over her face. He'd seen her before, he knew that, but where? Then comprehention dawned. "You're a Harper right?" he asked her. Emilla nodded. "Yes, at least, i was. Or I still am I guess. I play the pipes." Talk of her profession always brightened Emilla. "Yeah I know you." lukas continued. "You played at the Paradise River Gather. You were really good." Modest Emilla blushed. "She is!" Ranee joined in. "Composes songs right on the spot sometimes." "What do you do?" Lukas asked Ranee. "Well, I was training to be a Beasthealer before I came here," Ranee told him,"but I jump around and learn lots of things. I can never settle on what Craft I want to pursue. There's always something out there new I can olearn." Lukas knew right then that he was going to like Ranee. She seemed so carefree and funny and honest. Emilla seemed nice too, though a little quieter and harder to get to know. Ranee wasn't sure what to make of Lukas. When he'd entered the Ground she'd openly stared at his pale skin and hair. But he seemed nice enough, interested in others. "So what about you?" Ranee asked him. "Oh me, well, I'm a Weaver. My parents run the Crafthall at Paradise River." Ranee was impressed. Then she turned her attention back to the eggs. "Do you think anymore will hatch soon?" Emilla asked. "Hope so," Ranee replied,"or we're in for a long day." Both girls had held their breath in anticipation when the green and blue dragonets had made their appearance, and had both had sighed longingly when they'd found their lifemates. Ranee didn't like to speculate on what dragon she might Impress, dragons chose their riders after all, but in her heart of hearts she prefered greens or blues. Especially blues. She was a nonconformist, always doing ythings her own way. She knew that despite the fact that girls mostly only Impressed greens and golds, some had in fact Impressed blues, and though she'd heard life wasn't easy as a female bluerider, Ranee was up for the chalenge. But she doubted any blue would want her since one blue had already Impressed a girl in this Hatching and there probably wouldn't be anymore. Emilla wanted a gold. She had her heart set on one. How lovely it would be to be a goldrider, possibly a Weyrwoman or someone important in the weyr. And she wouldn't mind the responsibility either, she craved it. She loved leading groups and helping others, and she thought a gold would be right for her. As for Lukas, he wasn't sure. His Search had been suden and improbable and he'd never even thought about dragonriding before then. Thinking about that now though, he thought a brown would suit him. He liked how sturdy and reliable they were, and they didn't have as much prestige as the bronzes, which LUkas didn't mind.
(they don't have to get these colors or even Impress at all, those are just their thoughts)
