Subject: >We ARE supposed to be paying attention, right?<
In reply to: Rinali and Lilith 's message, "Weyrlings here!" on 02:37:17 08/30/04 Mon

((We're just going to pretend K'vren and Notusith have been here all through, eh? Sorry 'bout that, I'd taken off for a while when I thought this place was going down and Topcities hated me. *sheepish*))

K'vren! Pay attention! Notusith urges, nudging his rider with his cyan-threaded navy muzzle. His rider has been faithfully following instructions all through the lessons, but it seems like his mind drifts farther and farther from the demonstrations daily. It frustrates the young blue, who's absolutely fascinated by them. Why isn't his rider?

K'vren jerks guiltily, startled, as his dragon's frustration reaches him. /I'm sorry, Notusith. I'm trying, I really am, but Dad's done all this before, and I've taken care of Hakath, and well.../ he sounds a bit sheepish, /it's kind of boring./ He scratches Notusith's eye ridges in apology.

Well, I haven't done this all before, Notusith protests reproachfully. I want to learn, and you're distracting me.

/Sorry. Well! Firestone,/ K'vren says thoughtfully, picking up a chunk. /Chew on this - carefully - and swallow thinking of your second stomach. And don't flame anyone!/ He lobs the chunk at his dragon, who catches it neatly.

I know. I paid attention, Notusith says grumpily as he begins to chew on the firestone, the sound like metal claws digging at granite.

Someone's in a bad mood today, K'vren thinks, deliberately not directing his thought at the dragon, but from the annoyed snort he recieves in return, he knows that Notusith has "overheard" the comment. /Well, you are./

Because you're interfering with our training, Notusith points out, and K'vren winces in acknowledgement of the truth. An uncomforable feeling begins to grow in the blue's belly, and then he jerks his head around to point his muzzle away from other people and belches. A small spit of flame flares out, followed by a moment of silence, then a second belch that leads to a series of tiny sputterings of fire. Then a third, more powerful belch, expending the rest of the flame in one swift flare. Notusith looks quite startled, but soon his eyes shift to a happy blue-green.

Grinning, K'vren thumps his dragon affectionately on the shoulder. /See?/ he exclaims. /You did fine! It'll need a little work, but we're only weyrlings./
