 Lines or an essay was definitely a way teacher could deal with misbehavior. 100 lines was usually the norm, I got 250 once and heard someone got 500. The hand writing had to be consistent and neat. After supper, it was always homework time, so I would have to complete them after that. Once I was finished, mom would look over and sign them at the teachers request. I was always spanked afterwards and sent to bed. The teacher would look them over and discuss your behavior so it didn't happen again.
