 I would be okay with that sentence on someone who was a three time offender like Ryan. It would appear that whatever punishment was handed out the first two times did not work.

I agree. I do not think a spanking would be inappropriate in Ryan's case. I would even like to see the return of judicial flogging, like in Singapore, as part of the punishment for serious offenses. But these days the tide is so far away from a mother even giving a swat to a misbehaving toddler, that Ryan does not need to worry about his tender little tush.
