Mom would sometimes say "I owe you a spanking" which was code she would pay us the "debt" later in the afternoon or early evening. Pajamas were an integral part of the routine. My brother and I even had bottom flap onesie pajamas for these occasions. She would usually remind us to put those pajamas on, which we would change into before dinner or after finishing our homework. Children need a lot of sleep, and this is not a way to encourage good sleep or good sleeping habits. But the pajamas are a clever way to protect a child's modesty while giving them a proper spanking. Older kids would especially appreciate this. To what age were you and your brother spanked? P.S I noticed there is another Rebecca posting on this board. Bedtime is often a big issue and when spanking is involved, it might be greatly, and very unfortunately, altered for sensitive kids. Keeping it separate from being part of a spanking procedure seems essential both to linking spanking to conduct improvement and to a positive attitude toward the "good night's sleep" that was always mentioned in health classes. Modesty was always emphasized in our home. And even though all our spankings were in private, spankings were always embarrassing enough, without adding frontal nudity, especially when we were older and we were spanked into our teens. I agree with you about the importance of sleep, but the early-to-bed really was a meaningful punishment, especially on summer days or weekends when I would have to put on my PJs and sent to bed in mid-afternoon. But after the spanking I really did not mind it. Mom was a hard spanker, and when she was through I was exhausted. I was in 6th grade when mom bought these weird pajamas and put them in all of our drawers. When I said I didn't want to wear them, she said I didn't have to unless I needed a spanking. I thought she must be kidding til my younger brother got in trouble and had to wear them. I hated those things. I didnt wear pajamas at an older age, but the embarrassing drop-seats were still in the drawer. Mom would say "get ready for bed and put on your pajamas." My heart would pound and my whole body tingled. I'd feel my face flush bright red and I'd be breathing rapidly. Running or resisting out of the question, my mind would race with wild thoughts of earthquake or fire, ANYTHING to save me from a bare bottom spanking! I'd be in a fog of disbelief - spanked??? No! I was always sent to my room, where I sat, fretted and tried to think up a defense. But when mom finally came in, hairbrush in hand, she was always infuriatingly calm. But part of grounding here means i stay in my bed clothes for the duration of my grounding, unless taken out by mum, dad or sitter, in which case i can get dressed to go out, but get undressed again on return.
