It is an interesting question why even Dennis the Menace never gets spanked. There was a strip called Katzenjammer Kids and it seemed one of them was always sporting a red spanked bottom. Surveys show, I think, that some amazingly high percentage of kids in US high schools have been "hit."

This alleged survey result is very misleading and may reveal the real problem of making spanking legally forbidden -- namely that safe spankings disappeared and were replaced by parental temper tantrums or "hits."

Ask any kid if she or he can tell the difference between being hit out of anger and being safely but perhaps painfully spanked. The answer will be of course: spankings are for misbehavior and are on the possibly, but not necessarily, bare bottom. Hits are likely dangerous and can be on the face or other vulnerable places.

Rebecca finds spanking useful. I am sure no kid spanked by Rebecca is going to complain that she "hit" him. They might wish they hadn't misbehaved and been spanked for it.
