In reply to: Sonya 's message, "Re: "I Hate You!" on 08:55:24 11/09/24 Sat

Doggone it Sonya, I was in tears when I read this one. It really got to me. We love our kids so much and they can just rip out our hearts sometimes.

Spankings and all, I had a great relationship with my parents. Unfortunately, they have all passed away as have my brother and sister. I miss them all. That's one of the things that sucks about getting old, is you live long enough to miss the people you love. Cherish them and the memories you have with them. Because when they are gone, all you have are the memories. Also, make sure your kids never forget them.

I had to laugh when you told about what your mom said to you about her grandbabies being her reward. My mom put the "Irish Mother's Curse" on me hoping my kids would be just like me. Then she would also tell me, that her grandkids were her reward for not pinching our heads off when we were little. I put the same "curse" on my daughter when she was pregnant with her first. She has two now and they are so much like her it's almost scary especially the oldest. And I tell her the same thing my mom said to me about how they are my reward.

Again, thank you for sharing.

Even in some of the old dramas and sitcoms where family life was bent towards the ideal, kids would sometimes get angry and scream that they hated a parent. It must not be that uncommon at all, and with parents not taking it too seriously or personally. This is even more true with siblings getting angry with each other. If there is love in the family, it doesn't simply disappear because someone momentarily lost their temper and said something they don't really mean. If good feelings were restored, you might not need to hold on to the guilt and sorrow for too long. Hold on to all the good feelings you've had.
