I think I was age 4. Might have been 5. I was in Vacation Bible School at our Baptist Church. I do not remember what I did but one of the teachers threatened to "Take me over her knee and spank me like she did her little girl. Her daughter was a little redheaded girl, less than a year older than I.

I cannot remember much about our conversation but I do remember trying get the focus away from her spanking me, while trying to get details about how she spanked her daughter. I knew her daughter throughout school but never tried to engage her in a conversation about spanking.

Not all things. At age 10 or so I remember walking along a street where a woman was lying on a chaise lounge on her front lawn. Her 4-5 year old son was fussing with another boy and crying a bit. She called him over and draped him over the top of her thighs. “This will give you something to cry about,” said she, and then spanked him very hard once or twice. I had two thoughts. First, fascination at the view towards me of his bottom in the air, and wondering what he felt like lying so high on her lap. The other, sort of anger that she hadn’t addressed why he was upset at all, just hit him for crying. I imagined hubby coming home to witness that, feeling the same as me, and putting mommy over his knee.
