Thats a great question. Pretty much all my implement spankings were from a wooden yardstick. It had both the thud of wood bur also stung from having plenty of range like getting caned.

I never got a paddle once a junior sporting coach dealt with a fight by belting a group of us with a razor strap. That stung like 1000 wasps! No way id choose it again.

Would probably take thuddy over stingy from my spankings stinging so bad. But id probably regret it

I prefer stingy. A thin flexible switch works great on bare legs. The sting is more intense but short lived. The marks are just on the skin, without deeper bruising or soreness. It's also safer with less chance of injury especially if the person receiving moves around. I have read of rare instances where people actually had broken bones in their hand from suddenly reaching back during a school paddling.
