I had a passing familiarity with the razor strop. My best friend in sixth grade liked to tease me saying that "You have never been licked until you have been licked with the razor strap." That meant the switch and the yardstick I felt, didn't count. My counselor also liked to remind me that she got the razor strop because her parents felt that "the only way they could reach me was through my seat."

My friend didn't know it was really a strop that the barbers all had one attached to their chairs. These same barbers loved to resharpen their straight razors before shaving behind our ears and then to praise the power of their strops for improving behavior!
