As I got older, around ELEVEN or TWELVE, I began to think of myself as quite grownup. Nothing popped that bubble like a spanking. And it really did incentive me to avoid them! Mom played THIS card by saying 'spanking is a childish punishment, you will b too old for spanking when you quit acting like a child' I must admit I played The same card with my kids.

I take it when you say she played that card you mean she'd threaten a spanking knowing that 99% of the time the threat would get the desired effect as everyone wanted to avoid one as it is childish, humiliating, painful and tough on the ego for sure.

This results in a lot fewer spankings as we age but every once in a while someone gets it and we all get reminded that no none is above it, it is still an option and a possibility for all.

So yes it is very effective as a threat, particularly when it is acted on should the threat not be heeded. Then seeing the spanking itself is a detterent and reminder to all.

Ever notice that one spanking witnessed by all humbles up every child. Everyone gets a little more respectful, polite and cautious around authority.
