Consolidated here are all the various smoking related quotes I stumbled across in fiction that might prove inspiring to authors.

Quote One.

A line from an old smoking fetish story long abandoned, posted as possible inspiration.

"Nope. In fact, I'm envious. She smokes more than I do.”

Love2Smoke, 'A Little Later' circa 1999

Quote Two.

Another quote this time taken from an unworthy story, in the hope that it inspires a worthy one...

"The smoke within her chest was comforting but did little to ease the guilt she was feeling."

SlimV, 'Adult Needs', 2004

Quote Three.

From a currently incomplete story...

"She smiled, placed the cigarette back into lips and took a decent-sized drag. She exhaled right away, her warm breath doubling the size of the cone she exhaled into the dark night sky. Smoking suited her. It was hard to believe that she was so against it when I first told her I started..."

ClosetFascination, 'Strange and Beautiful', currently incomplete.

Quote Four.

From a review of the 2022 horror film 'X', a quote regarding one character arc that might resonate with an author:

"Then there’s R.J.’s relationship with Lorraine, which speed-runs the whole process of evolution from sexual liberation to masculine aggrievement when the girl becomes fascinated in spite of herself with the production of The Farmer’s Daughters, and decides she wants an on-camera role as well."

I can't help but think of Nicorelax's words when they commented on the Old Dark Side board about DonV's 'Like Daughter, Like Mother'.

"The combination of being worried over the effects of smoking while being mesmerized by it at the same time is balanced just right and are pretty believable, particularly in the era (1970's) the story is set in..."

Quote Five.

From an unlikely source...

"At that hour Celia Stone rolled off her young lover with a happy smile and reached for a cigarette. She smoked little, but this was one of those moments. Hugo Gray on his back in her bed continued to pant.

...

In the darkness Celia Stone took a long pull, felt the nicotine hit the spot, leaned over her lover and touseled his dark brown curls."

Icon (1999), Frederick Forsyth

Quote Six.

From the closing chapters of the 1998 novel 'Ghost' by Marc Olden.

The novel is one in which a female undercover police officer discovers that the officer assigned to look after her the 'Ghost' of the title is quite possibly trying to kill her.

"Waiting was turning her into a basket case. That was why she'd gone back to smoking. But just for tonight.

She'd quit tomorrow. Provided she was still alive.

She hadn't known how much she'd missed smoking until now. Let's hear it for the soothing weed."

Quote Seven.

From another unlikely source...

"Cian quietly stepped onto the balcony and found Amaliya puffing on a cigarette and talking on the phone."

...

"Realizing she wasn't alone she looked up at him and exhaled a long plume of smoke. The action seemed incredibly sexy and he shifted on his feet feeling uncomfortable."

Pretty When She Dies (2014), Rhiannon Frater

Quotes Eight and Nine.

These two quotes come from a 'Fantasy Romance Novel' a friend mentioned that had some smoking in it.

The first quote is the Female Romantic Lead (Non-smoker sadly) describing herself to the Male Romantic Lead.

"Resistance is all I have. It's who I am. Besides, I don't mind a good fight."

The second is that bit of smoking, it turns out the mother of the Male Romantic Lead smokes, this is the best of that.

"'To hell with it.' (Thoughts)

She dug through her drawer and lit another cigarette. They helped calm her, kept her focused on one train of thought at a time. Already too many conversations were spiralling through her head...

'Stay in the present' (Thoughts)

She took a long slow drag and indulged in another slow exhale.

Presently she was quite pissed." (In this context very angry rather than drunk, sorry Bazzle.)
