Subject: Reporting a TC to the CLRG for abuse.

I danced years ago and suffered from immense emotional abuse and covert physical abuse from my TC. The humiliation and pain I suffered under TC was normal to me as a child because I was subject to abuse in my home life. I also suffered from low-self esteem and had a very meek personality so I believe this made me an easy target for TC.

I have been in therapy and only have come to terms with the things TC did in recent years. It has hurt me deeply. I recently looked up said TC and was sickened to see that they are still teaching. I also looked up the CLRG child protection policy and TC has broken most of the rules for teacher's code of conduct within that policy.

The MeToo movement has made me want to speak up because I don't want this to happen to another child but I have a lot of concerns about not being believed. If I have to face TC again and nothing ends up being done about it, it will be like being re-victimised. Has anyone ever dealt with something like this? Or dealt with the CLRG about any sort of rule-breaking issue with a TC? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any alumni from your school you are in contact that can corroborate your experience and add their voice? I'd say don't take any silence from CLRG as an answer. If they don't fix it, out the school. Bad reviews, naming and shaming on this and other message boards. But do try to get it handled within CLRG first. Can you contact the head of your region and ask them what would be the best procedure? I'm sorry that person (I won't even call them a teacher... they don't deserve the honor) was so cruel to you.   - Then that's what you should do. Write it all down, what happened, how it has affected you and what you would like them to do about it going forward to protect current and future students at the school. Send the letter by registered mail that they have to sign for so that they can not claim that they never received it. Ask them for a response by a certain date and let them know that if you don't receive a response, that you will be contacting your local child protection authority. Keep copies of everything you send them so that in the event you need to take it further, you have evidence that you tried to go through CLRG first.   - I think you need to put yourself first and do what is right for you, what will give you some closure or at least some peace of mind. CLRG will hopefully reply to your letter. I don't know what they will do about it though, I feel that they will say they can not take away the TC's ability to teach just on one persons say so. I also don't think they have the ability to do a proper investigation other than asking the TC, did you do this? To which the TC will say no and that will be the end of it. To my knowledge there has only been one TC struck off and that was after a police investigation and court trial which resulted in a guilty verdict. I do think that you should write to CLRG though, then it is on record in case they receive any other complaints and if they do nothing, that is also shown as they knew about it and still did nothing. - I am happy to leave this here, I also think it is an important message as so many people, dancers and parents, need to be aware of what can be going on right in front of our faces, we trust that people we hand our children over to will do the right thing and thankfully in most cases they do. If this helps one other child or one other parent to notice that something isn't right with their child, it makes it worthwhile leaving up.
