I am another mom that spanks about 50/50 with my hand and implement. Whether that implement is with my hairbrush or my wooden spanking spoon (with the younger children). I always make sure to spank soundly and thoroughly for both portions, but as I do spank at a quicker pace with my hand, I am sure I do give more swats. Although like many here, I have never been one to count when I spank.

For more serious spankings, much like Mary, I will keep the percentages about the same, but spank longer for each portion. For the children, they make it clear how a standard spanking "lasts forever". So when they have earned a more serious one, they especially let me know even more loudly and desperately how "awful" it is, and how it "never ends". But I am just fine with that, as it is letting me know the spanking is doing exactly as intended. All part of a good and proper spanking in my book. Particularly for more naughty behavior.
