I've never thought much of house arrest as a punishment. Isolation, silence and being grounded only reinforces bad thoughts and feelings. If they get a proper spanking, that's the end of it. The children have been punished for their misbehavior and will be reminded of it for a while, with a sore bottom. Everyone benefits and the parents have done their job. Parenting.
