It definitely is not a dying position in my home, or my family in general. Anytime I have had to give a spanking (not swats), I have always taken them over my knee (lap). I spanked my children from their very first spankings as pre-schoolers all the way up to their last (late teens) over my knee. My daughters always spank their children over their knees when they need to do so, as well as I have spanking mom friends that always use the over the knee position, as well. It most certainly is not a dying practice with those that I know that spank.

There really isn't a better position to put a naughty child in when you need to administer a good and proper spanking. It's not only easiest to do so with them over your lap, but as has been said, it is a loving and maternal position having them close to you while you redden their backside soundly. And another very important reason it reminds them who is in charge, and they are never too old (or big) to be taken over Mommy's (or Grandma's) knee for a spanking if their behavior requires it.

I feel Kate said it best in her post "As long as mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other female authority figures are giving spankings, the over the knee position will continue to be used." I can tell you that this Mom, and Grandma, will continue to always take the child over my knee whenever they need to be spanked. No matter their age.
