I always start my spankings with my hand and will go to an implement. Unless I am spanking a child young enough where only a hand spanking is sufficient. But I feel using my hand is so important. Ivana already said it so well in her reply, but there is nothing more appropriate and natural than a sound, bare-bottomed spanking given over Mommy's lap with her hand.

I am tall for a woman (5' 10") so I have decent-sized hands, but mine are not thick or wide. They are more long and somewhat narrow, as well as having long fingers. Although I can't play the piano worth a darn. lol However, I have found in having longer fingers do help in wrapping around bottom cheeks and outside (or inner) legs when I swat, as I use my full hand to smack a naughty backside.

My hand spankings are always administered rapid fire and quite hard. I do move my hand around and am quite random on where I smack. I could give 1 swat in one location or 3-4. I will swat anywhere from the top of their buttocks all the way down to their upper thighs. All of it is WELL reddened when I finish my hand spanking. And much like Mary said in her post when she hand spanks, the redness is also intermixed with periodic ridging in many areas usually due to receiving more attention/larger amounts of repeated smacking of my hand.

I do hand spank for quite awhile, even in smacking rapidly. I have always felt giving long, hard and thorough spankings are extremely important. And the best way to give a good, thorough spanking is spanking for a good while. The children have always complained that I "spank forever!" or were scared that I "would never stop!", even during just the hand portion. Along with of course their loud wails, screams and crying buckets of tears and snot. And that is completely fine with me. It's all part of a good and proper spanking. And it is letting me know my spanking is working and getting through to them exactly as intended.
