Usually I post something here after a spanking, but this is more of a 'i should have spanked and will if there's a next time' post.

Nicholas has gotten really into a new video game. I have never seen him so focused lol. Side note - could we somehow make homework this engaging? I don't really understand it, but it's one where you play with real people in real time. Anyway, because he doesn't want to lose or lose points or whatever happens, he really, really does not like to get up in the middle of it until he's done playing. If the house was on fire, I think he might wait until the flames approach that room.

One day last week he was playing after school and I noticed when he got up he ran incredibly fast to the bathroom then quickly to his bedroom before going back to his. I didn't think anything of it, he always wants to hurry back to his game.

Later on that evening I went to his hamper to get laundry and noticed the undies at the top are quite damp. I wasn't upset, but I called him over to me so we could talk. I was very careful to not be critical when I asked him what happened, and he said he waited too long to get up from his game and "mostly made it to the bathroom in time". He assured me this was a one-off, that he isn't having an issue with this, etc. which makes sense as I've not seen anything in the laundry that indicates otherwise. I remind him that if he did have an issue like this, he wouldn't be in trouble. I gave him a hug (with some hug pats mixed in) and told him to be more careful.

A few days ago he was playing his game when I noticed the same panicked sprint to the bathroom. This time I called him over to me when he came out and he was looking down at the floor. The same thing had happened. He "mostly made it there" as he put it, it's not like he was soaking wet, but still. I put my hands around his waist and told him that I've been very lenient with this, but that it's very silly to not stop playing a video game to take care of basic needs, along with the fact that I don't need the extra laundry, etc.

I told him there would be consequences if this happened again purely due to procrastination and sent him on his way with a swat on the bottom.

I'm thinking I *probably* should have spanked yesterday the second time this happened. I think that was a miss on my part. Hopefully this just doesn't happen again, but I think if it does A) some time without the game and B) a spanking .. are warranted.

I'd love to hear others' thoughts on this, and I especially welcome opinions different than my own.
