I 2nd what Amanda had to say to you, she said it so well.

I think you will know when you need to add an implement to your son's hand spankings, I would advise you to 'add' it to your hand spanking now, 13 is plenty old enough. Most here started spanking with a wood hairbrush or wood spoon when their children were 7 or 8 and most kept on spanking with their hand, as I do.

Some need an implement because their hands as the child grows and gets older aren't enough to do the job required, so they add or just use an implement only. Some moms forgo the hand portion and go right to the ‘main course’ so to speak with their implement.

I do start my spankings off with my hand and then go to my wood hairbrush to finish my spankings. Although I didn't add my hairbrush to my hand spankings until late, Donny and Scott were 11 and Bobby was 9, it was after emails back and forth with Sarah. But I wish I had added my brush sooner.

There are a few reasons for this, one is you don’t have to keep spanking as hard as you do with my hand, you/we can let the brush do the work and rest our hand, especially if a more serious longer spanking is needed or when spanking more then one at a time. Plus most older children reach a point where a hand spanking alone is not enough.

But I am not knocking spanking with our hand, to me, my belief on a "hand-spanking" I've always thought the skin-to-skin contact really makes the spanking more of a nurturing experience, a bonding time. To me there is nothing better, more maternal than a mom's, dad’s too or sitter’s hand being applied firmly across a child's bare bottom. I have always loved to be able to feel my hand on their bare bottom. This is also why I put the one I will spank over my lap and always will no matter their age.

I will suggest that if you do add a brush, paddle or spoon to your hand spanking, the first time you use it take your time and spank slow, get used to it and you don't spank as hard as with your hand, swinging from the wrist and elbow.
