My oldest is trying to prove he's "almost an adult". While he isn't openly defiant or trying to act like a "tough guy". He does try to act more mature than he really is. He also protests about being spanked over the knee "like a little kid". When he does get spanked, he does his best to not just bust out and cry like his sibs, but by the time he has had his spanking, he has a hard time choking the tears back. Instead of talking to him in the living room after a spanking and then hugging him like I do his brother and sister, I let him go to his room to cry in private for a few minutes then go in to talk to him. He doesn't want to "look like a crybaby" in front of his brother and sister. So after a few moments I join him in his room sit on the bed and comfort him so it's just between us.
