A friend of mine was visiting one day while our kids were at school. She had one and she was having a lot of problems with his behavior. She did time outs and grounding but it was not getting through to him. She knew I spanked my kids but she had never done it with her son. Turns out she was never spanked as a kid other than a couple of slaps on the bottom that were more pats than slaps. She was really interested in finding out more about how I spank, so I told her. I explained how my hubby and I will talk to the kid getting ready to get spanked, explaining why they are getting the spanking so they understand. Then they are made to bare their bottom and turn across his or my lap. She was surprised to find out I spank them bare, and I explained that the embarrassment of spanking them that way is a part of the punishment. She asked me what I use to spank them with and I just told her all I had ever used up to that point was my hand. I told her I usually give about a dozen swats and after it's over, I let them up. While they rub their bottoms and pull their pants back up, there is more talk and then after it's all over, I give them a hug and send them on their way. She asked me how the kids react to it and several other questions. Then we talked about other things for a while. I don't know if she has tried spanking him or not yet. I guess I'll find out whenever we get together again.
