The two grandkids I spank are still pretty easy to handle so I've spanked on kitchen chairs, on the back porch often enough as they seem to like to disobey me when they play outside.

There have been a few upstairs in bedrooms as well.

For older ones either a bed or couch is definitely the best. Wherever, they take place the result is the same a lot of tears, crying and a bare bottom or multiple ones the color of a tomato.
