my daughter's reasons for wanting thongs are that she is very self conscious in general and doesnt want any lines showing. Of course there are other ways to achieve this. I think she also thinks its more grown up. My solution is to let her try them. Its a bit of a gamble but I'm betting she will not find them comfortable and go back to what she knows.
I still remember my own sister growing up finding out that her thong still had to come down when she was spanked. She mistakenly believed it could stay on since it didn't cover her cheeks.

In your situation, I might buy a few boxer briefs and have your son model them as well as briefs. He has to agree that what you decide is final however. He may not get his wish but if hes willing to take that step at least you know its important enough to him to try and thats part of life - a good lesson for him to learn.

I would remind him that the best approach is for it to be clear to anyone who can see his undies, that everything be snugly in place where it belongs. Perhaps he will conclude on his own that boxer briefs just aren't as effective at that. maybe if hes big enough or old enough he might even opt for some of the higher cut briefs that are supposed to be more comfy.
