Mary,

You told me about these spankings in your most recent email. I haven't had a chance to reply to it yet. I plan to do so when I get the chance, but wanted to give my support here.

These spankings were so well needed for the boys! As you know, I have also always been quite strict with the children in regards to their behavior at church. Expecting them to sit and behave well during the service and even afterwards, as well. And when old enough, even pay attention to the Pastor.

The way Austin behaved would quickly lead to a trip downstairs and a serious, bare bottom spanking over my lap here as well, especially at his age. He definitely knows better.

With Ryan, where I would never spank the children for putting off their homework if it was because they were having trouble with it. Ryan was just doing anything and everything possible 'not' to work on it because he didn't want to. And to make it worse, was distracting Austin and Decker in the process. Who were both behaving well in attempting to get their's done. Ryan most certainly needed some good (sound) motivation over your lap with your hand and hairbrush.

I really don't know what it is about boys in getting them to wash up after themselves sometimes. It is like pulling teeth with them at times! And then they go ahead and lie about it when you ask, which they do know is going to make it worse for them and that they are going to get caught.

It was never an issue I had with my girls. It's one thing when they are toddlers, but I had that problem with my son (and his friends) in their preteen/early teens as well. My sisters as well with my nephews. And I ran into the same with Andy and Derek, also.

And then they act surprised when we take them to the sink to soap out their mouth for lying and then give them a good, sound spanking for both lying AND not cleaning up after themselves. Decker absolutely deserved everything you gave him, Mary. Good for you. He will learn...eventually.
