Thanks for your support and I did like your observation:

"Believe me, they know full well when they have misbehaved and when they have a good, sound spanking coming. She knew and was trying not to let it show".

No follow-up spanking from her Mum, as I was telling Mary and Amanda. Even though it was a good few hours later before my wife gave her a verbal roasting, our daughter was still finding it uncomfortable to sit. The spanking magic of a sturdy hairbrush, I guess. Anyway, Irene decided not to spank her again - she was a lucky girl.
