Jack once managed to wrench himself clean off my lap by holding on to the chair leg. As it was late in the spanking I really couldn't blame him for trying anything that would get his bare bottom away from that terrible hairbrush. And if they have been properly spanked, I don't think they know what they are doing towards the end.

Anyway, I helped him back over my lap and then made a great show of positioning him, and his bottom in particular, just so. And then I carried on teaching him his lesson with the back of the hairbrush.

Ever after, if I saw his hands grabbing the chair leg, I would tell him firmly to let go of it and not carry on with the spanking until he had. Similarly, if he managed to reach back with his hands, trying to save his poor bottom that way, I would tell him to take them away. There would be a horrible pause and then he would do what he was told, surrendering it to me and my hairbrush again.

I think winning little battles like that during the spanking help Mum show who is boss. (Clue: it's not the little boy with no pyjama trousers on.)
