Jack managed to wrench himself clean off my lap like that once, Mary. I couldn't really blame him for trying to get his bare bottom away from the terrible hairbrush, so I just took him back across my lap and continued my work of turning a naughty boy into a good boy again.

If he ever managed to reach back and protect his bottom, I would say firmly: "Take your hands away." There then followed a horrible pause, before he slowly, reluctantly let go of his bottom and abandoned it to its fate.

My feeling is that if they are being properly spanked then towards the end of it they won't know what they are doing. What would worry me more would be an attempt to stop a spanking by saying something clever. That would tell me that they had not even begun to learn the lesson the spanking was intended to teach.

Sometimes, even when tears were flowing fast, I could feel that Jack was still fighting every spank. In that case the spanking continued until the back of the hairbrush had taken the fight out of him. I never allowed him to come off my lap thinking he had won any sort of victory.
