It is nice to know that I am not the only mother on this forum who has never been spanked. My parents were spanked growing up but they never spanked us probably just because it was falling out of favor and not as socially approved as it used to be. That's too bad because we likely would have benefitted from spankings and life would have been much easier on our parents with better behaved children. Plus I almost certainly would have started spanking my children much sooner if I grew up with such discipline myself. Now that you are a spanking mother yourself, do you wish you were spanked growing up? Do you find it somewhat awkward giving sound spankings when you don't actually know what they feel like?

It is great that you had your mother in law to help induct you into this discipline regime. Having a spanking mentor to guide you is very helpful and I am grateful for my lovely neighbor Julie who is filling that role for me.

It is encouraging to read you say that the change in Shaun was immediate when you started spanking him. Hopefully I can say the same about my kids when I start spanking which will be very soon. I know that officially I am the boss in my home but it often doesn't feel that way. I am optimistic that giving my kids sound bare bottom spankings will firmly establish my authority and make abundantly clear to everyone that I am the one in charge.

Interesting to learn that hand spankings clearly weren't painful enough for your 8 year old son and that was your cue to introduce the hairbrush. I also have an 8 year old son so I should have a hairbrush ready for his first spanking. Good to know that your hairbrush was effective for spanking the defiance and backtalk out of him. My kids backtalk me quite often and I am looking forward to doing the same and soundly spanking it out of them.
