Hi Kelsey,

An occasional visitor here to say, good for you for deciding to try out a much more effective manner of discipline! I am glad you have a real world example for you to learn from in Julie, and it sounds like she is a good example of how to give a true, good old fashioned spanking the old school way!

You were smart to get a hairbrush straight away, as well. Especially since your daughter is getting to that ripe double digit age, lol. Spankings once kids get to that age and above truly do need to be a lot harder and longer than when they are younger.

One tip I have for you if you struggle with them kicking too much that always helped me with my children, was using a wide sofa, and making sure that their bottoms were bent over my left thigh while the backs of their knees were pinned beneath my right thigh. You can make sure their feet won't kick back "heel to butt" and get in the way of the hairbrush.

Just like you mentioned with Julie, expect lots of tears and don't let yourself give into their crying and screaming. Kiddos have plump little butts for a reason, and with a proper warm up with your hand, you can paddle those little cheeks without any injuries until you see something resembling a pair of ripe cherries bent over your knee!
