Hi Amanda, thanks for asking. My husband and I simply felt that by age 13 they should be "aged out" of spanking. There was no specific reason, but we just naturally agreed that by that age they should be disciplined differently. As I stated above, having honest and periodic discussions about disciplining our girls was very important to us, and we almost always agreed or reached consensus quickly on such topics. Also, though it was our shared feeling, advice (unwanted, though appreciated especially since it reinforced our own beliefs) from both my mother and his reinforced our views. They both advocated spanking and willingly shared advice and even their own point of view memories of spanking us, as well as what they said worked. They both agreed that spanking should stop by around age thirteen.

As to stopping spanking too soon, I don't think we did so. However I found this forum (and a couple others where I contributed) about four years ago, not long after our youngest turned 13. I confess that I had a serious case of the "spanking itch" due to some misbehavior that bordered on what could have resulted in a spanking a few months previous. While we held our agreement and neither of our girls got a spanking after their thirteenth birthday, I did find it interesting to read and sometimes share on this forum.
