This topic came up in a 3 way call I had with my daughter and daughter-in-law. We had a bit of our own debate last night and I thought it would be fun to get others thoughts as well.

We spoke of multiple routines of the spanked after a spanking. Would be interested on hearing of others, we came up with these as a starting point:

a) the thinker- one that likes to be alone after a spanking and do some soul searching and really contemplate the lead up to and resulting spanking

b) the napper

c) both a) and b) above

d) a very short recovery time and right back to playing or continuing their day like nothing happened

e) angry, moody, grouchy and generally unpleasant

If there are other routines, I'd love to hear them. I have 3 grandkids currently getting spanked, Jeff is a c), Lianne is a d) for the most part, and Beth my son's daughter apparently is an e) which had my daughter-in-law quite upset on the phone last night, she wants the reaction to be an a) cause that is how she used to react back when she was a child.

My thought was that if she's an e) she probably wasn't spanked long enough or hard enough. I wasn't there though but her description of the spanking itself would defintely indicate that.

My thoughts were I was okay with any of the routines other than e). I kind of like the thinkers reaction myself for some reason both Jeff and my brother years ago were like that. I was more like Lianne and bounced right back into things. That worked for me I didn't feel like I needed to replay it and think it through I knew where things had gone awry.

Now sometimes as a mom I used to give the thinkers an hour or maybe a little longer as they get older then if it gets to be too long it's time to go to their room for a talk. I'd often find them on their tummy with their bare in the air and usually some profound things came out of their mouths from that position it was quite a satisying little discussion for both mother and child. At this stage I'd give them some reassurance and a bit of an encouraging word that it is time to move on.

I'm interested in what others think about this? Do you have a preference so far as which routine your child takes. I kind of like a) or c) personally even though I wasn't like that myself.

Some want their kids to bounce right back and that is fine if that is their personality. I don't mind them being sad and contemplative either so long as they do it in their room without bringing others down.
